Bearded Collie Breed Strategy - Breed Community Development.
As part of the Breed Strategy and following the request from breeders to produce
a checklist with guidance for the exchange of health information between breeders
and stud dog owners when planning a mating the JBLC has produced the following:
a checklist as to the type of questions that breeders can ask potential stud
dog owners and a longer article which expands on the checklist and covers other
points to consider when choosing a stud dog
- advice about planning a litter
- checklist when planning a mating
- Bearded Collie Health. How can you help?
Following the recommendation that sires are used no more than twice per year for current registration levels the JBLC has drawn up tables of sire usage for each year. This will enable breeders to see what sires have been used and how many litters and puppies they have had. The tables start at 2015, before the 'two litter recommendation' was suggested, 2016 when this recommendation was first discussed and will be done each year following. The tables have been drawn up using the breed records supplements and do not include any litters sired by UK owned dogs abroad.
We would encourage breeders to look at a wide range of dogs when choosing a sire and consider those dogs that have not sired any litters at all as yet.
